Canberra International Music Festival
11-21 May 2011
September 3 - 4
Ainslie Arts Centre, Elouera Street, Braddon
Pro Musica is excited to present in conjunction with Music For Everyone and the tenants of the Ainslie Arts Centre, a new micro-festival entitled the Bloom Festival. Timed to preview Canberra’s Floriade and the arrival of Spring, the Bloom Festival brings together all the varied music organisations within the Ainslie Arts Centre for an open weekend that highlights the breadth of musical activities that take place in this gorgeous JS Murdoch designed building.
Join us on Friday September 3rd or Saturday Sept 4 at 7:30pm for Pro Musica’s contribution, Seven Rooms, a progressive concert featuring the music of Monteverdi, Bach, Ernst Chausson, Graeme Koehne (2011 Composer in residence) and Jacques Brel, as well as original jazz compositions by winner Luke Sweeting and other finalists from this year’s Sprogis Woods Composition Prize.
From the Artistic Director
For those that enjoyed this year’s festival, 2011 promises to continue to build and expand on the exceptional artistic relationships we have developed over the last two years. Thematically we will be beginning our Griffin Trilogy that will culminate in 2013 with the Centenary of Canberra celebrations.
In 2011 we will be exploring the centenaries of the creation of the ACT and the Griffin’s conception of Canberra – the sowing of the seeds that would grow into our city. We will spend time reading Canberra’s landscape and the pristine geometry of the Griffins’ central design and how that design originates and sits within the “Amphitheatre of Hills”.
Chris Latham, Artistic Director
Chris Latham is about to go to Florence to bring back the Lost Gallipoli Sonata by Frederick Septimus Kelly, which has been missing since 1919, and which we have recently re-discovered in the music collection of Kelly’s favourite violinist, Jelly D’Aranyi.
