For an unstoppable creative force like Dan Tepfer, the Goldberg Variations will never be lullabies – his sunset Bach recital is not a prelude to nap, but rather a warm up to some late-night fireworks. This ‘remarkable musician’ (Washington Post), his two trio collaborators, and one grand piano, will light up Smith’s Alternative, as for one night only Canberra’s coolest nightspot for independent music turns into an intimate jazz club straight out of Greenwich Village. This is world-class jazz as it is meant to be heard: up close, personal and utterly original. Fresh from the release of his innovative video album for Disklavier, Natural Machines, Tepfer will play music from his latest trio album, Eleven Cages, along with other compositions and original takes on the American songbook from Gershwin to Beyoncé. If this festival of Bach can save you a trip Leipzig, why not go round-the-world and save a trip to New York City at the same time?
Dan Tepfer is joined by Sam Anning (double bass) and Alex Hirlian (drums).
