Winther's Bach I

  • Fitters' Workshop 11 Wentworth Avenue Kingston, ACT, 2604 Australia (map)

Concert 2

Kristian Winther, Canberra born and bred, has grown into one of the most idiosyncratic, fearless violinists this country has ever produced. A musician of uncompromising intensity, Kristian has been turning his hand to all kinds of music for sold out audiences under the age of 30 in an underground car park in Collingwood. Performing the complete Bach violin solo works in one day is a feat not commonly attempted in this country. How do you follow four independent voices on one single violin? How do you transcend the confines of one bow and four strings? For Bach, these six elaborate solo works represent a personal passion of the most intimate kind: music that reaches to the heavens in the most fiendish and devilish way, but yields the greatest of rewards. An event not to be missed.
