Within Viennese artistic circles, few were unaware of the political subtext of the poem Die Forelle (The Trout), Christian Schubart’s allegory of being snared by the secret police. Franz Schubert later used his setting of this poem with its characteristic slippery fish-like motif as the starting point for a large scale quintet. Five international specialists on period instruments join forces to bring you this all-time favourite in the last weekend of the festival.
Franz Schubert (1798-1828), Sonatina in D, D 384
