...a talk and mini-recital by Roland Peelman
Whilst Louis XVI tended his garden, the Austrian-born Marie Antoinette maintained a fascinating musical entourage. Hear about the great musical exploits of the 1780s that found their way into her boudoir, against the distant drum of France’s emerging revolutionary songs.
The performance includes J.L. Dussek’s The Sufferings of the Queen of France, depicting Marie-Antoinette’s final ordeal, from imprisonment to execution in 1793.
Followed by ‘music and art’ tours in the Gallery with NGA voluntary guides.
